Imbedded Intelligence

Cable intelligence is an attribute finding it's way into a growing number of critical electronic applications. These cables may never earn a degree but they are expected to communicate flawlessly with the electronic devices they engage. The level of communication varies from telling a device that it is connected with a particular accessory to advising a medical instrument to deliver a specific electrical therapy to a patient. Sometimes intelligence is used to limit the use of a particular cable or provide a self test.

Alden Products offers a number of options for injecting intelligence into the common instrument cable assembly. Solutions may range from simple mechanics to encapsulated electronic circuitry hidden in the cable packaging. Alden has successfully over molded components ranging from resistors and capacitors to sensitive e-proms and has been granted patents on several manufacturing techniques. Over molding is typically more efficient than potting and expands the range of potential applications to medical disposable products.
